COMMUNITY BUILDING

30 Plus/Minus Group

We are a diverse group. Our ages vary from about 25 to 55.  Members are coupled, single, with and without children, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and straight, Eastsiders, Seattleites, male, female, Transgender, democrats, republicans, vegetarians, carnivores, dog lovers, cat lovers, and the terribly allergic.  We have a regularly scheduled brunch on the first Sunday of each month.  We meet in the North Room (in front of the fireplace) after the second (or only) service and drive to a nearby restaurant.  Other activities include game nights, open houses, sporting events, hikes, concerts, birthday dinners, and bake-offs.  We also participate in social justice and volunteer activities.  Meet in the North Room in front of the fireplace.

When:    After the second or only service on the first Sunday of the month and other occasions.

Cost:      Depends on activity

Adoptive Families Group

We are a group of families at East Shore who have adopted children.  There are no “official” meetings, but there are approximately four get-togethers a year.  We meet to give our children the opportunity to socialize with other adopted children and for the parents to support each other and discuss topics relating to adoption and parenting.

When:    Varies - Watch for announcements in the Beacon

Cost:      None

Covenant Circles

ESUC’s mission is to be a caring, religious community; therefore, we offer Covenant Circles so that people may fully enter the life of the church.  A Covenant Circle meets two needs:  first, it structures and nurtures caring relationships in a voluntary small-group setting with trained leaders; second, it provides ongoing opportunities for personal growth through exploring life issues in a liberal religious context.

When:    Circles offered at many different times and locations.

Cost:      None

Third Saturday Bridge Club

Come single or with a partner to enjoy an evening of bridge to have fun and exercise the mind. 'At least a minimalof bridge proficiency necessary'.  Reservations appreciated.  Meets in North Room.

When:    Third Saturday of the  month, 6:45 PM.

Cost:      $1 for snacks

The East Shore Men’s Support Group

We provide a place for men to explore their feelings, deal with some of the problems that life always manages to throw our way, get support from peers for any issues that we are struggling with, and form strong friendships with other men.  New members are welcomed the first Sunday of each month and are requested to get an information package on the group format/purpose from either the Church office or by contacting Joe Germano.

When:    Sundays, 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Cost:      None

Addiction and Recovery Group

The Recovery Ministry team is engaging in an on-going discussion of how we can practice our Unitarian Universalist principles in relation to the challenges of alcoholism and other addictions and the promise of recovery.

Whether you are struggling with your own addictive behavior, concerned about the behavior of a relative or friend, or simply interested in learning more about addiction and recovery you are welcome to join us.

When:    Second Thursday of the month, 7:00 to 8:00 PM

Cost:      None

WoolGatherers

Join us while we change the world with two sticks and a string.  We get together for fellowship, to share knitting knowledge, and to produce hand crafted items for the church mitten tree, the homeless, cancer patients, our loved ones, and ourselves.  Occasionally we organize “field trips” to local yarn shops for inspiration and fun.  While most of us are knitters, we are not age, gender, skill level, or craft specific.  Free knitting advice offered eagerly.  Come and visit, and bring your handwork.  We will be happy to see you.  Meets in E-204.

When:    Third Wednesday of the month, 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and first Sunday of the month, 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and .

Join us in discussing Humanist philosophy, a traditional strand of Unitarian Universalism.  We will read all or part of a book before each meeting and come to discuss the ideas with others.  We will begin with some recent best-sellers.  The  reading material for Winter Quarter, will be selected and distributed at a later date.
