Adoptive Families Group We meet to give our adopted children opportunities to socialize with each other and for the parents to share support and discuss topics relating to adoption and parenting. Cost: None Addiction and Recovery Group The Recovery Ministry team is engaging in an on-going discussion of how we can practice our Unitarian Universalist principles in relation to the challenges of alcoholism and other addictions and the promise of recovery. Whether you are struggling with your own addictive behavior, concerned about the behavior of a relative or friend, or simply interested in learning more about addiction and recovery you are welcome to join us. Covenant Circles are an avenue to fully enter the life of the church. Each circle meets two needs: first, it structures and nurtures caring relationships in a voluntary small-group setting with trained leaders; second, it provides ongoing opportunities for personal growth through exploring life issues in a liberal religious context. Cost: None Dorthea Dix Support Group Mental illness, developmental and learning disabilities and other forms of mental dysfunction are an ongoing challenge not only for people with these disabilities but also for their families. If you have a loved one with a mental difficulty, this group can provide much needed understanding and support. Each meeting will begin with a potluck dinner; we meet in North Room. New members are welcomed the first Sunday of each month and are requested to get an information package on the group format/purpose from either the Church office or by contacting Joe Germano. Monthly meetings provide a variety of opportunities to connect, learn and take action around this year's theme of Building a Community of Strong Women. There are no dues and no big shots. We just gather every two weeks at members’ homes to enjoy their selected cuisine. Our goal is good conversation, sharing, and camaraderie. We look forward to seeing you. We gather for fellowship, to share knitting knowledge, and to produce hand crafted items for the church mitten tree, the homeless, cancer patients, our loved ones, and ourselves. Occasionally we organize “field trips” to local yarn shops for inspiration and fun. While most of us are knitters, we are not age, gender, skill level, or craft specific. Free knitting advice offered eagerly. Come and visit, and bring your handwork. We will be happy to see you; we meet in E-204. Humanist Books Group Welcome the second year of the Humanist Books Group! We’re a small, easy-going group, and we only read and discuss half of a book each month. Last year we discussed The God Delusion, The End of Faith, Writings on an Ethical Life, The View from the Center of the Universe, and Parenting Beyond Belief. We welcome you to join us in our quest for an ethical life free from religious dogma.
