About East Shore Unitarian Church

East Shore was founded in 1948.  The congregation grew quickly and in 1950, the Sanctuary was built in Bellevue.  We currently serve over 700 adults and over 300 children, youth through worship, life long education, fellowship, social justice, and community outreach.

Unitarian Universalists believe that personal experience, conscience and reason should be the final authorities in religion.  In the end, religious authority lies not in a book, person, or institution, but in ourselves.  We put religious insights to the test of our hearts and minds.  Ours is a free faith.

Our congregations are self-governing.  Authority and responsibility are vested in the members themselves.  Each local congregation—called a church, society, or fellowship—adopts its own bylaws, elects its own officers, calls its own ministers, and approves its budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Regarding Sunday services

What are Sunday services like?
Sunday services typically include music, the sharing of joys and concerns, meditation, hymns, readings, and a sermon.  You are greeted at the door and are given information about us.  If you fill out the yellow information card, you will receive our newsletter for six months.

What should my children and I wear to this church?
Some people dress up and some people dress casually. Wear what feels comfortable to you.

Is there child care or Sunday school during church?
Child care is available for younger children during services. Religious Education classes or summer programs are available for children ages four and up.

If my child doesn't separate well, can my child stay with me during the service?
Your child is always welcome to stay with you during the worship service. If your child becomes restless, you may want to sit in the balcony, or the North Room next to the Sanctuary where you can listen to the service on the speakers.

Are there people in the congregation who hold diverse beliefs?
Unitarian Universalists affirm a diversity of religious ideas and support spiritual development guided by freedom, reason, and conscience.

How do I meet other people? How do I get involved?
Attend a service and stop by the Visitor Table in the foyer.  Stay for coffee and conversation following the service.  Check out the Getting Involved page or contact the Membership Director at (425) 747-3780 or membership@eastshoreunitarian.org.
