Proposed By-Law Amendment

At its May 2009 meeting the Board of Trustees unanimously recommended that the following changes to the Bylaws of the Church be presented to the Congregation in Meeting at the June 7, 2009 Annual Meeting.

Delete the current Article VIII Congregational Business Meetings, Section G Public Statements.  “The congregation may make a statement of public witness.  Approval of such statements shall require a three-quarters majority vote.”

Replace it with the new Article IX Public Witness Activities.  “Public Witness activities may be approved by a vote of the congregation in meeting and shall require an eighty percent favorable vote.  Alternatively, public witness activities may be approved by senior staff, after consultation with the Board, when there is agreement that the activity substantially aligns with the mission and vision of the church.”
